A Drink Before a Story

Is túisce deoch ná scéal

Irish Expression

This Irish saying is displayed prominently above my home bar. When I was building the bar, I wanted to incorporate some kind of messaging or phrase. I considered a lot of options and this one just stuck with me.

The English translation is roughly “a drink before a story.” In other words, you should offer your guest a drink before moving on to conversation. Some might also say that a drink or two (or five) may lead to good stories. I think either is true and fits me just fine.

I also included a quote of my own. Something that I coined to ease my friend’s concern about weather on a recent trip to Ireland.
